Indoxyl
 
[Kurzwort] das, -s, Derivat des Indols mit einer Hydroxylgruppe am C-Atom 3 (3-Hydroxyindol), das auch in der tautomeren Ketoform (3-Oxoindolin) reagieren kann. Indoxyl kommt v. a. im Indigostrauch als Glucosid Indican vor, aus dem es durch hydrolytische Spaltung gewonnen wird. Es lässt sich leicht zu Indigo oxidieren, wobei zwei Indoxylmoleküle unter Abspaltung von Wasserstoffatomen zu einem Indigomolekül zusammentreten.
